About

Hello! My name is Sasha Fuetsch and I am a student at The New School completing my undergraduate program.

Over the course of my time in college, i’ve noticed a huge disparity in the journalism industry, between the care that journalists put into their work, and the resulting readership and their understanding of said work. In my research, I found showed that the majority of Americans were not reading traditional news sources, had trouble differentiating between op-eds and news, and that traditional news sources didn’t feel relatable to them.

I believe it is the industry’s responsibility to respond to this lack of attention and to adjust accordingly.

At the beginning of the Spring 2025 semester, during which I developed this website, I hoped to create a comprehensive newsroom model that responded to consumer needs and worked to make the journalism industry more accessible. I soon realized that it was an endeavor too large for me to accomplish within five months.

After speaking to a number of people in the industry, including editors and reporters, I learned that the biggest impact I might be able to have towards effecting change was by creating a centralized place for grants and other types of funding available to journalists and newsrooms.

Many people I spoke to told me that they knew funding for their work existed but that it was exceedingly difficult to find, especially if the person looking was also working on high-stakes stories. My hope is that this website can help mitigate some of those financial barriers and help produce more diverse, relatable, and accessible journalism.

I’m working to improve and expand this website all the time. If you have suggestions, notice points that need improvement, or find a funding opportunity that can be listed, please contact me at sashafuetsch@yahoo.com.
